9+1 PATHWAY PROGRAM

Your pathway to the NYC Marathon.

The Bronx Burners 9+1 Pathway Program expands access to the NYC Marathon by supporting Bronx Burners scholarship recipients through New York Road Runners’ 9+1 program. Participants complete nine qualifying races and one volunteer opportunity to earn guaranteed entry into the following year’s NYC Marathon.

More than a marathon entry

A pathway to the starting line.

For many runners, reaching the NYC Marathon starting line starts long before marathon training begins. Through NYRR's 9+1 program, runners can earn guaranteed entry by completing nine qualifying races and one volunteer opportunity within a calendar year.

The Bronx Burners 9+1 Pathway Program helps remove the financial barriers that can make that journey difficult to access. Selected Bronx Burners scholarship recipients receive support throughout their 9+1 year, including reimbursement for qualifying race fees and guidance as they work toward completing their requirements.

Once they've earned their entry, the next phase begins. Participants move into marathon preparation with individualized training support, gear, running shoes, and the Bronx Burners community behind them through race day.

The goal isn't simply to get someone into the marathon. It's to help them earn their place on the starting line and arrive prepared for what comes next.
